MISCELLANEOUS BASIC KARATE STRIKES
KARATE PALM STRIKE:
The fingers and thumb are pulled back to support the heel of the palm during the strike. The elbow stays down to support the strike.
Primary targets: face (especially the bottom of the nose).
KARATE ELBOW:
A strike with the point of the elbow, in a top to bottom, front to back, or upward motion.
Primary targets: spine, kidneys, solar plexus, neck, back of the head, face.
KARATE FOREARM:
A circular strike, using the bottom of the arm extending from the elbow toward the wrist.
Primary targets: temple, face, neck, solar plexus.
HEAD BUTT:
Downward KARATE Strike
uses the center/top of the forehead, with the head at an angle.
Primary targets: nose, other parts of the face.
Upward KARATE Head Strike
uses the top of the head directly above the forehead.
Primary targets: the face, beneath the chin.
KARATE KNEE STRIKE:
An upward motion with the knee, commonly reinforced by a counter, downward motion with the arms (pulling the target into the knee).
Primary targets: groin, spine, solar plexus, face.
KARATE SHIN STRIKE:
A downward, thrusting round kick motion using the shin.
Primary target: thigh (sciatic nerve).
KARATE SCOOP KICK:
An upward, snapping kick using the instep of the foot.
Primary targets: groin, face.
THRUSTING OUTER FRONT KICK:
The leg is in front kick position and strikes with the sole of the foot and the toes pointed outwards.
Primary target: knee.
SIDE KICK STOMP:
A downward strike with the foot in side kick position.
Primary targets : knee, instep, If the opponent is on the ground: groin, solar plexus, neck, face.
