Mission Accomplished Karate Test 101 02/12/2012
Last week was the first “Karate Lab Post”. Only a few people posted on the site, but I did receive a lot of e-mails and comments. ( Mission accomplished) The doors are open and it seems that letting my students as well as Martial Artists of other styles know that I am open to questions, has sparked quite a bit of interest.. Thank you all for your encouraging words and participation on the site. Next month is our studio's belt exam for under belts. A very popular question has been, “Besides knowing all the requirements and practicing, what are some other things I or my child can do to further prepare for his/her exam?” I am so stoked that so many of my students asked me this question. (Just imagine you are teaching something and your students want to take your lessons further than you have asked them to…) It’s a great question and I am sure it is one that will keep coming up in the future. So I have decided to answer this question in two parts using YouTube to help make the answer as clear as possible. Both parts are presented in a pretty generic fashion so if anyone, including other martial art studio owners, would like to share them, please feel free. I am here to serve you, the student, the instructor, the master and the studio owner. (Part one) This is a basic outline on martial art exam/testing – etiquette and preparation. http://tombloommartialarts.com/karate-test-101.html (Part two) “Martial Art Audio Coach Volume 2” For the student who is preparing for his or her Martial Art exam or test. I am excited to share this one! – Back in the day when I was competing in fighting, just after I received my black belt, we were preparing for the Long Beach International Karate Championships and felt I needed an extra edge. I remember when I was really pursuing baseball, my father talking to me about a famous hypnotist Pat Collins “The Hip Hypnotist” and that she was working with many of the professional athletes of that time on a technique called self – hypnosis (you have to remember this was the 70's and I had never heard about anything like it before) - My father explained that our sub-conscience mind controlled the emotion-thought-and focus of any given situation and if we were able to pre-program these thoughts and responses for success, it would ultimately produce better results. So in 1981 just before winning the middle weight division in the International Karate Championships, I made myself an audio tape of positive affirmations’-feelings-responses-recall-and strategy for my matches. – It worked. View the video and see if it will work for you. Good luck, relax, and enjoy the experience. http://youtu.be/zLN6gNXf_74 Add Comment First Post! 02/07/2012
Through the Spirit of Yamaoka Tesshū - Welcome to the Karate Lab For the past few years, putting off starting a blog has been such a big hobby of mine lol. I could never quite define what direction I should go. So here goes – My vision for “The Karate Lab” is to provide value to everyone who would like to participate. For those of you who want to drop in and get some good insight, and content for those of you who have questions, comments, opinions, or anything to share on the topic of KARATE. I would really like to hear from you and get this ball rolling.Below are a few examples of what I am talking about. 1) You are a parent and have a question about Karate, or have something to share .2) You are a student and want to swap ideas or want some help with a concept, skill or training advice. 3) You have a great Karate picture or video of you or your child and just want some props. 4) You or your children compete in Karate tournaments and you want to broadcast your accomplishments or maybe you just need some good old-fashioned Dojo advice. 5) You are a Karate Tournament promoter and want to announce your event. 6) You are a Karate Instructor and you want to give or get some fresh and some not so fresh classroom tips. 7) You are the owner of a Karate studio or studios and you would like to give or get some ideas or discuss some different methods on running a Karate program. Or maybe, like me, you just love Karate and are always hungry for knowledge and would like to learn and participate with others that share your passion. Through this process I would like for you to view me as your partner – someone you can bounce things off of. This Blog is posted on my studio website so if you would like to get to know a little more about the Professor, check it out. Karate 101, Professor Bloom, Professor Bloom’s Story and Testimonials are all good places to get a good idea of my background. I believe in keeping everything out in the open but as I mentioned, this is our studio website and even though I have an extensive Karate background, these listed accomplishments do not completely convey where my head is at this moment. So this year I did something completely off the cuff! I actually posted on our site my personal, studio and financial Goals and New Years resolutions for 2012.You can find that here at Goals and Visions for 2012. I think this is a good direction to begin. Through the Spirit of Yamaoka Tesshū - Welcome to the Karate Lab. Professor Bloom | Professor BloomKarate World Champion ArchivesCategories |
