Chumbae stance. Look to the left, fold the right fist on the right hip, palm up; the left fist is over (but not touching) the right fist, palm down.

                                                                                                            1) 1/4 turn to the left: step into a back stance with a double block. The right hand is in a high block, knife hand position; the left hand is in a knife hand block.

                                                                                                            2) Look to the right, fold the left fist on the left hip, palm up; the right fist is over (but not touching) the left fist, palm down. 1/2 turn to the right: while the left leg remains stationary, step to a back stance with a double block. The left arm is in a high block, knife hand position; the right arm is in a knife hand block.

                                                                                                            3) Look to the left, fold both fists to the right shoulder in an “X” cross block position (with fists crossed at the wrists, and the right hand closest to the body). The left foot steps forward to a front stance, and hands cross block at groin level, right hand on top, with the ridges of the fists facing forward.

                                                                                                            4) Fold the fists knuckle to knuckle on the left hip and step forward (in a front stance) to a right reinforced outside block.

                                                                                                            5) Look to the left. As the left knee chambers (knee is up) for a side kick, the fists fold to the right hip: the right fist is on the right hip, palm up; the left fist is overthe right fist, palm down.

                                                                                                            Simultaneously:

                                                                                                            a) deliver a left side kick (at knee level focus or higher) and a bottom fist (focused at the opponent’s temple).

                                                                                                            b) Recoil the kick and open the extended bottom fist to a knife hand (—to prepare to grab behind the opponent’s head).

                                                                                                            c) Step forward to a left front stance and strike with a right forearm (—the left knife hand strikes the forearm at the elbow; the right hand is in a fist, tucked into the inside of the left arm). Both elbows are held shoulder level, with palms facing the body.

                                                                                                            6) The following moves are completed simultaneously after looking to the right: jump switch1/2 turn to a (right leg forward) back stance; fold the left fist to the left hip, palm up; place the right fist over the left fist, palm down.

                                                                                                            7) a) Maintaining a consistent head level, the left leg slides up to the right leg. The right knee chambers for a side kick. Simultaneously:

                                                                                                            b) deliver a right side kick (knee level or higher) and a right bottom fist (focused at the opponent’s temple).

                                                                                                            c) Recoil the kick and open the extended bottom fist to a knife hand.

                                                                                                            d) Step forward to a right front stance and strike with a left forearm. (The right knife hand strikes the forearm at the elbow. The left hand is in a fist, tucked into the inside of the right arm). Both elbows are held shoulder level, palms facing the body.

                                                                                                              8) Look to the left.

                                                                                                            a) Simultaneously, look to the left and the hands block*: the right hand is in a knife hand, high block position; the left hand is in a low block, knife hand position. As you block, shift your weight further onto the front leg, bending the knee more.

                                                                                                            * This is an exception to the rule that look, fold, and step occur sequentially.

                                                                                                            b) Pivoting 1/4 turn to the left, the right hand chops the opponent’s neck, and the left hand is in a knife hand, high block position.

                                                                                                            c) While the hands remain in these positions, deliver a right leg front kick.

                                                                                                            d) Recoilthe kick and fold the left elbow above the right wrist, hands in knife hand position, with elbows tucked into the body. (The arms lay across the body for protection).

                                                                                                            e) Simultaneously: the right leg lunges forward, and the left ball of the foot tucks behind the right ankle. Deliver a right downward back fist (focused at nose level), with the left fist at the hip/ *Ke-I.

                                                                                                            9) Look over the left shoulder. Fists are on the hips, palm up.

                                                                                                            a) The left foot steps diagonally into a front stance, completing a 225 degree turn to the left. Both wrists cross spear hand, at neck level, palms up, with the right wrist on top.

                                                                                                            b) Close the fists (simulating a grab to the opponent’s collar), then turn both fists over while uncrossing them and keeping them at neck level (thus simulating the lock of the choke hold). From this position (left leg forward, front stance):

                                                                                                            10)
                                                                                                             a) The rear (right) leg front kicks and recoils at solar plexus level while the right fist turns palm up, and the right elbow pulls toward the solar plexus. (The left arm remains extended but slightly bent).

                                                                                                            b) Step down (right leg forward) into a back stance while the right fist jabs (face level), and the left fist pulls back to the hip.

                                                                                                            c) Pivot into a front stance and reverse punch (left hand) at solar plexus level; the right fist pulls to the hip.

                                                                                                            11) Look to the right. Both fists pull to hips, palm up.

                                                                                                            a) The right leg steps to a front stance, completing a 90 degree turn (or, “V” move). Both wrists cross spear hand, neck level and palms up, with the left wrist on top.

                                                                                                            b) Close the fists (simulating a grab to the opponent’s collar), then turn both fists over while uncrossing them and keeping them at neck level (thus simulating the lock of the choke hold). From this position (right leg forward, front stance):

                                                                                                            12) a) The rear (left) leg front kicks and recoils at solar plexus level while the left fist turns palm up, and the left elbow pulls toward the solar plexus. (The right arm remains extended but slightly bent).

                                                                                                            b) Step down (left leg forward) in a back stance while the left fist jabs (face level), and the right fist pulls back to the hip.

                                                                                                            c) Pivot into a front stance and reverse punch (right hand) at solar plexus level; the left fist pulls to the hip.

                                                                                                            13) From a front stance (left leg forward), look to the left, then fold for a left reinforced outside block (knuckle to knuckle on the right hip). The left leg steps to a back stance (45 degree turn to the left), with the stance and reinforced outside block locking out simultaneously.

                                                                                                            14) Fold for a right reinforced outside block, left hip. Step forward into a back stance (right leg forward) and simultaneously block.

                                                                                                            15) Fold for a left reinforced outside block, right hip. Step forward into a back stance (left leg forward) and simultaneously block.

                                                                                                            16) Simultaneously: the right fist pulls to the hip, and the left thumb (in spear hand position) jabs at the opponent’s eye.

                                                                                                            17) Pivot from a back stance to a front stance (left leg forward) as the right thumb (in spear hand position) jabs at the opponent’s eye. (Both arms are thus parallel and at eye level).

                                                                                                            Page 214

                                                                                                            b) Hands follow through to the sides.

                                                                                                            d) The right foot steps to a back stance (left leg forward, completing a 225 degree turn to the left) and chop.

                                                                                                            19) Look to the right for a 90 degree turn, then fold for a right reinforced center chop.

                                                                                                            20) The right foot steps into a back stance (right leg forward) and chops (thus completing a V” move).

Wait for the perow command; the right foot steps back to Chumbae stance.

                                                                                                            • The first demonstrations of a left leg side kick and a knee strike are in this form.

                                                                                                            • Do not swing the blocks or double strikes.

                                                                                                            • Moving back down the center of the form, keep the knees bowed out on the back stances and the head level consistent.
