PYONG-AN CHO DAN
Tang Soo Do Karate Intermediate Motion Number One
Chumbae stance.
1) Look to the left, fold for a left low block, then step 1/4 turn to the left to a front stance as the low block is completed.
2) Step forward in a front stance to a center punch (right hand, solar plexus level).
3) Look to the right, fold for a right low block, then step 1/2 turn to the right to a front stance as the low block is completed.
4) a) Shift to a back stance while simultaneously shifting the blocking arm to. outside block position (—simulating the break of a wrist hold).
b) Fold for a right back fist (the same as a low block fold).
c) Pull the right foot back to a cat stance while simultaneously back fisting (to face level). Drop the right heel and turn the right palm down simultaneously.
d) The left foot steps forward in a front stance to a center punch (solar plexus level).
5) Look to the left, fold for a left low block, then
a) step 1/4 turn to the left to a front stance as the low block is completed.
b) Shift to a back stance while simultaneously folding for a left knife hand block.
c) Pivot back to a front stance and block (left knife hand).
6) Fold for a right high block. Step forward to a front stance and block.
7) Fold for a left high block. Step forward to a front stance and block.
8) Fold for a right high block. Step forward to a front stance and block/ *Ke-I.
9) Look to the left, fold for a left low block, then step 314 turn to the left to a front stance as the low block is completed.
10) Step forward in a front stance to a center punch (right hand, solar plexus level).
11) Look to the right, fold for a right low block, then step 1/2 turn to the right to a front stance as the low block is completed.
12) Step forward in a front stance to a center punch (left hand, solar plexus level).
13) Look to the left, fold for a left low block, then step 1/4 turn to the left to a front stance as the low block is completed.
14) Step forward in a front stance to a center punch (right hand, solar plexus level).
15) Step forward in a front stance to a center punch (left hand, solar plexus level).
16) Step forward in a front stance to a center punch (right hand, solar plexus level) / *Ke-I.
(K formation follows)
17) Look to the left, fold for a left reinforced low chop, then step 3/4 turn to the left to a back stance as the reinforced low chop is completed.
18) Look to the 45 degree angle, fold for a right reinforced low chop, then the right foot steps to a 45 degree angle to a back stance as the reinforced low chop (right hand) is completed.
19) Look to the right, fold for a right reinforced low chop, then the right foot steps in al 35 degree turn to the right (--ending opposite to move #17) to a back stance as the reinforced low chop (right hand) is completed.
20) Look to the 45 degree angle, fold for a left reinforced low chop, then the left leg steps to the 45 degree angle to a back stance as the reinforced low chop (left hand) is completed.
Wait for the perow command; the left leg steps back to Chumbae stance.
RULES AND HELPFUL HINTS
• This form is in I formation with “K” moves added and should take approximately 25 seconds to execute.
• Moves # 4, 5, 17, 18, 19, and 20 are the most difficult parts of the form and should be practiced repeatedly.
• For move # 4: the front stance, back stance, cat stance, and front stance should be emphasized.
• For move # 5: the front stance, back stance, front stance should be clearly demonstrated, keeping the eyes focused straight ahead. Remember: keep the front knee bowed outward when shifting to a back stance.
• For moves # 17, 18, 19, and 20: demonstrate strong chops. Look before turns, and demonstrate strong back stances.
This form simulates a defender who is fighting against 3 attackers.
